works as a violinist in the Asko Ensemble. He is a frequent guest in other ensembles, like the Schönberg Ensemble, the Ives Ensemble and the Remix Ensemble (Portugal). He played on period instruments in Anima Eterna and the Orchestra of the Netherlands Bachvereniging. With pianist Nora Mulder he forms a duo, playing amongst others the chamber music by Iannis Xenakis, which will be live recorded and released on cd in 2007. He worked as a soloist on several occasions. In March 2000 he made his debut in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with Theo Loevendie´s violin concerto. From 2000 untill 2005 Bas Wiegers was artistic leader and conductor of the Ricciotti Ensemble. He conducts the Asko Ensemble frequently, and he was also guest conductor at the Nieuw Ensemble, Cello-octet Conjunto Iberico, Orchestra De Volharding and the NJO Summer Academy. He was asked to replace Frans Brüggen conducting the joint forces of Asko and Schönberg Ensemble in a tour trough the Netherlands and Spain. He is conductor of the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra and Ensemble MAE.
